Do we really need another blog? Another straight-presenting white man writing words on the internet? These are questions humans have been asking since time immemorial. Philosophers and sages have argued and debated. They’ve consulted oracles and scrying tools. And the answer is, of course not. Nobody NEEDS to read anything I have to say. But nobody needs another Marvel movie or another season of America’s Got Talent, and those are still happening at an alarming rate.

“But why a blog?” you must be saying to yourself. “Isn’t social media enough to stroke your narcissistic urges as you watch the likes and numbers go up on tweets?” And while, yes, that dopamine hit is good, there’s also… how shall I say this? Too many other people on those sites? Actually, that was easier to say than I thought.

My words are lost among the endless, churning noise of the Algorithm and easily missed in the incessant chorus that is Other People. Here, on my own website, it’s just my words. Just my voice. Also, as many smarter people than me have said, you shouldn’t depend on the platforms provided by others because ultimately you have no control. It’s their platform, and you’re just using it at their whim. Also also, if you are using a service that doesn’t cost you anything? You’re the product. And honestly, I’m kind of tired of being a product.

So. I’m starting a website. What am I gonna put here? Stuff. Things. Stuff and things. Words, very likely. I’ll post stories and essays, reviews of things I’ve read or watched, and the blog, of course. I also want to start a kind of coding portfolio, so I might add that too at some point.

Read it if you feel so inclined, and if you don’t that’s ok too. There’s a lot of Content to Consume out here on the internet and I really can’t blame you for not prioritizing mine. I barely prioritize mine.

I’m starting this with a review of the last book I read as well as a microstory I’ve been toying around with.

More to come.
